Methods for applying wood varnish

The order in which the varnish is applied to the surface affects the appearance and service life of the formed coating. It is better to perform work on a dry, windless day at a temperature of more than + 10ºС. The optimum temperature range is within 15 - 35ºС at a humidity level of less than 80%. The process itself includes the following steps:

  • tool selection;
  • foundation preparation. The old coating, dust, and existing contaminants should be removed from the surface. If there is a fungus or mold on the base, this area is disinfected. Wood is sanded with a grinder or sandpaper;
  • applying a primer. This stage can be abandoned, however, priming will level the base and reduce varnish consumption;
  • applying varnish with the selected tool after the primer has completely dried;
  • polishing of the formed layer.
