DIY crochet hook organizer. Organizer for knitting needles and hooks from old jeans and flaps

Hi all!

Today we will sew an organizer for knitting supplies

As a gift or for yourself, it's up to you, but in any case, for a clear idea of the task - what size, what will be there and how it will be decorated - a sketch is needed.

Having such a clumsy sketch in front of your eyes, it’s easier to decide what and why you will sew - and the chance that you forget to sew the right pocket comes down to% 10 out of 100 possible :)))

A little more about the design: (all dimensions are indicated in finished form)

height 42 cm

unfolded width 45 cm, folds in three, folded width 15 cm.

closes with ties

The central part of the organizer can be either made of contrasting fabric or embroidered.

Filling:

long, straight needles/ stocking needles/ circular needles on fishing line/ hooks/ needle gauge/ row markers/ knitting needles/ fork for slipped stitches/

Ready? Go:)

1. We will start with you from the outside of the organizer - and the first thing we need is the ties. ATTENTION! I INDICATE MY DIMENSIONS, for the sample shown in the example, taking into account seam allowances of 1 cm, except for the moments where allowances are specified separately.

We cut off two strips: the first is 4 x 35 cm, the second is 4 x 50 cm. You can make one length, but in the end one will still be shorter than the other :) Fold it in half with the front side inward and lay a line, stepping back from the edge 0.5 cm.

2. Close one end, leave the other open. We cut the allowance obliquely, close to the line.

3. We twist and iron.

4. Let's start cutting and assembling the outer part. It consists of a main fabric and a contrasting or embroidered motif, which is also a way to attach the ties.

we take a piece of fabric (minus the size of the central motif - in the example: -12 cm) = 39 x 42 cm (height - shared thread) and a bar (contrasting fabric or embroidery) 12 x 42 cm. We glue it with a thin interlining or dublerin. We glue or duplicate the embroidery so that it does not shine through.

5. cut 39 x 42 put face up and set aside on the right side 4.5 cm at the top and bottom. Draw a vertical line and cut along it. We get two parts: 34.5 x 42 and 4.5 x 42.

6. We collect: we leave the large part face up, mark the middle on the right side, take the string (50 cm) and tack it with an open cut to the middle. We put the bar (embroidery) face to face, combining the right edge. We scribble, observing an allowance of 1 cm. We iron the seam in one direction, with a bias towards the bar. We lay out the workpiece face up - a large fabric + embroidery + a tie is fixed between them.

7. on the right side of the strap (embroidery), mark the middle, tack a short tie to it, with the open end into the seam. We take the remaining part (4.5 x 42) and put it right side to the front side. We scribble, observing an allowance of 1 cm. We also iron the allowance onto the bar.

We get the following detail:

You can sew on lace, decorative braid. the outer part of the organizer is ready. Iron the part and set aside.

8. Let's start cutting and assembling the inside. It consists of a common backing and pockets.

The substrate should be the same size as the top part of the organizer - at the moment 47 x42 cm.

9. We decide on the size and decoration of the pockets, further description for the presented example:

For long knitting needles - a detail 26 x 32 cm high. Top decoration 5 x 32 cm. Fold the details face to face, sew, iron the seam. We glue with a thin interlining. We turn the finishing part allowance of 1 cm to the wrong side and iron it.

10. Turn the part face up and stitch to the edge, securing the allowance. Sew on lace. We iron.

11. The lower tier - compartments for hooks and stocking needles - a piece 14 x 32 cm high, glue (decorate), turn the allowance to the wrong side, iron. We stretch to the edge.

12. We take the substrate face up and lay the tiers under the knitting needles on it on the right side - first a large section, a smaller one on top, aligning all the details along the bottom edge.

13. We cut out pockets for circular knitting needles - in my case, 4 pieces 15 x 17 cm high, glue, turn off the allowance of 0.5 cm on the wrong side - iron it, bend the allowance of 1 cm again, iron it and lay a line on the front side, stepping back from the fold 0.7 cm (it is possible for the width of the foot). Thus, we process all 4 pieces. On the lower (in the future) pocket we sew a piece of felt for storing needles for knitwear.

14. On the left side of the substrate, lay out the pockets made, starting from the top. The top edge of pocket 1 should match the top edge of the tall knitting piece. The remaining pockets are laid out evenly, at the same distance:

15. Baste the small section to the large part and align the resulting edge with the edge of the column of pockets, face to face, stitch keeping an allowance of 1 cm. Iron the seam in different directions.

pockets are sewn on only one right edge!

NOTHING has been sewn to the backing yet!

16. We put the resulting part on the substrate, combining the sides and bottom. Now you need to decide on the size of the stitch - this moment is especially important for those who use non-adhesive materials, instead of bulk interlining. You must quilt!

the stitch should end just below the top edge of the sections and pockets

The stitch will additionally decorate and fix the seal.

17. We begin the main assembly: we again lay the part with pockets on the substrate, combining the sides and bottom. We chip off. We sew the part into the seam (joint) of sections and pockets to the substrate.

18. We form the bottom at the pockets - We fold the carcasses to the right, leaving only the detail of the upper pocket. Align, cleave.

we put the needle clearly into the seam and sew the bottom of the pocket, stepping back from the bottom 0.5 / 0.7 cm

At this stage, the pocket can be stitched again, but vertically, dividing the pocket into two parts - narrower for the ruler, wider for markers.

We repeat the assembly algorithm one by one for the rest of the pockets - align, cut off, scribble:

19. We mark the compartments for straight knitting needles and sew -

can be done as in the example: narrower / wider, you can make the same size. Align the side cuts and bast to the substrate.

The inner part is ready.

20. We put the outer part face up, carefully bunch the ties in the middle so as not to sew where not to put them on :))) We put the inner part on it face down - a substrate with pockets. DO NOT confuse the TOP AND BOTTOM of these parts!

Peel ONLY the side seams. We sew, observing an allowance of 1 cm.

21. Turn inside out. We straighten and align the seams. Sweep with oblique stitches. ironing.

22. We will process the top and bottom with inlay. Since the cuts are straight, there is no need to cut the trim along the bias. On the example of this organizer, I also had the opportunity to talk about the most, in my opinion, neat way of sewing on an inlay, although not the fastest :)

We will need two strips 4 cm wide and equal to the length of the organizer + 4 cm for allowances. I don’t voice the final length for the simple reason that during the sewing process, due to minor displacements, it could change and it’s better to measure it further :)

At the inlays, iron the allowances on the wrong side, 2 cm on each side and fold the inlays in half lengthwise, inside out. Iron.

Pick up felt for the base measuring about 25 x 25 cm and small pieces for embroidery details. Cut out circles of different sizes.

Step 2

Lay out the circles in the form of an ornament. Then draw it, remember it or take a picture.

Step 3

Pin a few elements on which you will continue to work, and put the rest aside. Then, in the process of creating an ornament, refer to your sketch or photograph.

Step 4

Sew your elements with embroidery thread and a decorative stitch according to the pattern.

Step 5

When all the elements are sewn, you can start making a lay-out woolen thread.

Step 6

Lay out the thread in the free places between the sewn elements.

Step 7

Cut out two 11 x 25 cm rectangles from felt of a different color and connect to the main part from the inside.

Step 8

Sew the pieces on the sewing machine.

Step 9

Cut out two rectangles of fabric: 24 x 48 cm and 24 x 13 cm.

Step 10

Bend the top edge of the small rectangle. Fold the large piece in half and place the smaller piece between the layers. Peel off the cuts and lay a line, leaving an opening for eversion.

Step 11

Turn it out on your face.

Step 12

Sew up the opening with a blind stitch.

Step 13

Lay the lines: one vertical, dividing the part with the pocket in half; and divide one half of the pocket into narrow sectors.

Step 14

Such narrow pockets should turn out.

Step 15

Pin the fabric piece to the felt cover.

Step 16

Lay a vertical line in the center.

Step 17

Machine stitch can be decorated with lay-out thread.

Step 18

Almost finished organizer.

Step 19

It remains to make a clasp. For it, use a small piece of felt. Overcast the cuts and make a loop. Sew the finished piece on the back of the cover and the button on the front.

Step 20

Your organizer is ready!

The organizer for knitting needles and hooks is an incredibly convenient and practical thing that allows the needlewoman to always keep her working tools in order. Making it yourself is quite simple. This will require 1 hour of free time, two types of fabric as the basis of the organizer, lace for decorating pockets and as strings, a sewing machine, cutting scissors, a ruler, tailor's chalk or dry thin soap for drawing lines on the fabric, iron, needles or pins . Sewing skills for making an organizer will be minimal enough, and therefore even an inexperienced or remotely related needlewoman can handle it.
To make an organizer, it is best to use cotton fabric. It is easy to care for and easy to wash. Its only drawback is the high degree of shrinkage. Therefore, before cutting, all fabrics must be thoroughly ironed through a damp cloth so that they immediately shrink. Otherwise, in the process of further tailoring, the product may be deformed and its appearance will be irretrievably damaged.

The size of the finished organizer is 32 * 50 cm. From the prepared fabrics, two parts of the base should be cut out. The front part is 37*57 cm in size, the inner part is 34*57 cm.

On the inside of the organizer there are 3 rows of pockets - the lower one is for small things, the middle one is for knitting needles, the upper one is for hooks. It is necessary to cut out the details of the pockets according to the following dimensions: the lower and upper - 43 * 15 cm, the middle one - 34 * 31 cm. After that, it is necessary to fix this inflection with a machine line, laying it 1 mm from it. This is how the top edge of the pocket is processed.

Finished pocket details can be decorated, if desired, by sewing narrow lace or braid on their front side. After that, the middle and top pockets should be placed on the inside of the organizer, pinned along the cuts with pins. Then they need to be sewn to the part of the base along the perimeter, and also lay machine lines, dividing the pockets into separate sections for knitting needles and hooks. The distance between the separating lines should be at least 3 cm. Then even thick knitting needles and hooks can easily fit into such pockets. The middle pocket should be aligned along the bottom cut with the base detail, and the top one should be placed 9 cm from the top of the middle pocket. The bottom pocket for little things is sewn on the very last. It is divided into three parts by machine stitches, matching the stitches of the pockets for the knitting needles.

On the left side of the inside of the organizer, two ties should be sewn. They should be located as follows: the lower one - at a distance of 16 cm from the lower cut, and the upper one - at a distance of 21 cm from the upper cut.

After the inside of the organizer is fully prepared, you can assemble it into a single piece. For this purpose, the front side of the organizer should be placed on the inside (face to face), chopped off and sewn along the side cuts with a 1 cm seam. Then the organizer should be turned inside out, straighten the corners, iron the sides. The resulting folds will help to process the upper and lower sections of the product.

The organizer must be turned inside out, focusing on the folds of the sides, process the upper and lower seams, laying a line 1 cm from the cuts. In the bottom seam, you need to leave a hole through which the product will turn out on the front side. The turned-out organizer should be ironed again. The opening for eversion must be sewn up with blind stitches. Along the entire perimeter of the organizer, you need to lay a finishing line at a distance of 5-7 mm from the edges. The top edge of the organizer should be ironed 5 cm towards the inside. The resulting valve will help the hooks not get enough sleep during the operation of the product.

The finished organizer folds three times in length and is fixed with strings.

Good afternoon friends!

Tell us how and where do you store knitting needles, hooks, threads and needles, and other needlework accessories? Is everything convenient and organized so that you can quickly find the item you need?

Not? Maybe it's time to sew an organizer? I recently came across some interesting ideas. I was already preparing a publication on how to sew an organizer, and here Olya Arisep, my regular reader, shared that she had sewn an organizer for knitting needles and hooks. I asked Olya to tell about her work for all of you.

Olya is a wonderful needlewoman, a master of all trades, she knits socks and booties of extraordinary beauty, sews such charming fluffy toys! She showed us a couple of hers.

If you are not familiar with Olya yet, she will now tell you a little about herself.

« Good day!
My name is Olga Arisep. I live in the beautiful big city of Omsk. I have been doing all kinds of needlework since school.

My girlfriend and I constantly made something from rags, paper and cardboard, natural materials. They made and invented games and skits with what they themselves had created. According to patterns from the Rabotnitsa magazine, they sewed glove puppets, came up with sketches for them and played them themselves for our parents and brothers.

She began to learn to knit at the age of 8, first for dolls and bears, very quickly switched to knitting jumpers for herself, and already in the 9th grade she began to knit to order.

For each season (autumn, spring) I invented a new knitted hat for myself and tied up the “old” one. Once a neighbor told me that the neighbors even make a bet on which hat I will knit this time.

She learned to sew clothes at school and at home she "fixed" her skills with her mother - she sewed things for herself. Until now, I sew clothes for myself, because. garment industry standards and styles "do not suit me very well".

A philologist by education, she graduated from a classical university. She worked as a proofreader in various publications in our city. Lately - proofreader of the needlework magazine "Masterklassnitsa«.

How to sew an organizer for knitting needles, hooks and small things

I have long needed an organizer for needlework tools.

When I finally got tired of looking for the necessary tools every time in different lockers, shelves, boxes, I started looking on the Internet for how to sew an organizer.

I came across a lot of organizers, but they “suited” me according to the principle “what if the nose ....... put to the lips ………”.

Then I called for help from my eldest son (he is a professional designer). My son advised me to collect everything that will be stored in the organizer, and, based on their size, determine the size of the pockets.

So I did.

Determining the dimensions of the organizer

Since I had to place knitting needles in the organizer (and they are quite long, especially old ones, still my mother’s, their length is longer than the standards of modern knitting needles, and pencil cases are not suitable for them at all), which means that the pockets for the knitting needles should be slightly above the longest knitting needles, and the front wall of the pockets should be lower so that the knitting needles can be seen, but at the same time, the knitting needles should not fall out of the pocket.

The organizer should also store crochet hooks and knitting needles for socks - they are shorter, which means that the height of these pockets is less. I also determined it by measuring the height of my hooks and stocking needles.

The organizer should also accommodate various little things: small tools and sets of sewing needles (it is especially difficult to find them every time in boxes and cosmetic bags) - for them the third row of pockets. And for sets of needles, the pockets should be the smallest in height.

The third row of pockets consists of two halves, cut from two parts of different heights and sewn together in height.

The part of the "outer wall" should be slightly larger than the part of the large pocket.

How to sew an organizer with your own hands

I used denim as the material. You can also sew an organizer, but I don’t have any.

I cut out all the details, sheathed them on a typewriter with a zigzag.

The top edge of each piece was tucked inward and stitched.

Now we collect pockets, each separately.

We apply the upper short part to the lower large wrong side to the face, combine the bottom and cut off.

The side seams and the bottom are not stitched! They will be stitched when assembling the organizer.

We draw pockets. Empirically, by measuring the future contents, it was determined that it is more convenient to make the width of the pockets 4-6 cm, this is enough even for modern knitting needles in a package. Between the pockets there should be a double line, for it we allocate 0.5 cm each.

The length of the organizer, as well as the number of pockets, was determined by the number of knitting needles. There is always something to put in small pockets, it would be where to put it.

The pockets of the third, smallest row can be made wider depending on what you intend to store in them.

We sew the pockets of each of the three large pockets. I have an organizer made of denim, for the line I took bright pink threads.

The upper part of the large pocket seemed empty to me and I decided to decorate it with embroidery.

I found pictures of various handicraft supplies, sketched them on fabric and embroidered them along the contour with colored threads with a “needle forward” seam, filled some details inside the contour with the same seam.

When all the pockets are ready, we cut them together, combining the bottom edge and sides. We pin the upper “outer” part of the organizer to them facing the pockets and sew along the perimeter from three sides.

I tucked the top of the large pocket and the top of the “outer” part inward and stitched it - between the large pocket and the outer wall, as well as between the pockets, additional large pockets turned out.

Pull out the organizer. To make the corners turn out better, carefully cut the corners close to the seam, but without touching the seam, otherwise there will be holes.

Organizer is ready! You can steam it with an iron and proceed to the most pleasant thing - filling a brand new organizer.«

Oh, thank you so much for such a detailed description!

The master class didn’t work out for us, we just didn’t think about it, but it seems to me that everything is simple here and now it’s quite clear how to sew an organizer.

I would also advise in the case of using thin fabrics to lay interlining.

And you can store any needlework accessories in it: the organizer is suitable for knitting needles, and for hooks, and various small things.

It can be rolled up, tied with a beautiful braid and stored on a shelf in the closet.

You can sew a vertical organizer by hanging it on a crossbar on the wall in a needlework corner.

If you still need patterns, I present a diagram of a simple organizer, which was published in Veren's magazine. Scheme .

In the same magazine, I came across another interesting idea: to make a basket - an organizer (picture above).

How to sew an organizer - a basket

Such an organizer can be sewn on the basis of any basket with vertical edges, you can even use sour cream buckets for small organizers or paint cans, or you can take a cardboard box, you get a square-shaped organizer.

For decor, you need a little fabric of two types, in harmony with each other.

Before starting sewing, we measure the perimeter and height of the basket and draw a diagram like this.

We cut out two strips with a length equal to the perimeter of the basket (+ 2 cm per allowance), and a width twice the height of the pockets. Let's say one strip is 24 cm wide, the second is 44 cm.

The inner cover of the basket should be twice the height of the basket.

How to sew an organizer:

Fold the strips with pockets in half lengthwise, iron.

We put the strips on top of each other and on the cover, combining the bottom.

We outline the places of the pockets and sew them.

Then fold the cover in half lengthwise facing inward and topstitch the side seams.

Cut out the bottom of the fabric according to the size of the bottom of the basket and sew it to the cover.

Turn the cover inside out, try it on the basket, fit the top edge and stitch it.

Anyone who is engaged in knitting and other needlework will need such an assistant as an organizer for storing knitting needles, hooks and other knitting accessories. Such organizers can be different: folding with a clasp, in the form of a book or a bag with pockets, wall or over the door, in the form of a small textile basket with pockets, and others.
My mother loves to knit and asked me to make her an organizer with eyelets so that she could hang it on studs in her closet. We drew the pattern together with her, taking into account her wishes. The size of this organizer is 30x35 cm with loops on the upper corners.

We will need: 2 colors of fabric, thread, scissors, pins, measuring tape. For the base, take a strip of fabric 30x70 cm and fold it in half with the wrong sides inward.

For pockets, cut off strips, the size of which is indicated on the pattern + about 1 cm on the sides for hem and seams: 25x12 cm, 15x10 cm and 10x18 cm. Each of these pockets will be divided into two.

We cut a strip 4 cm wide from a plain fabric, fold it in half in length, fold the edges inward and sew to the upper sides of the pockets. You can use ready-made inlay.

We sew pockets (having folded the edges from the sides) in accordance with the pattern.

Then we sew each pocket in the middle, dividing it into two (as shown by the dotted lines on the pattern).

Again we cut off a strip 4 cm wide, fold it in half in length, fold the edges inward on both sides and sew on all 4 sides of the organizer (starting from the top corner, immediately forming loops).

I got such an organizer for knitting needles and hooks for mom.

Later we sewed another small pocket in the upper free part. The size of the detail for the pocket is 16x10 cm. Mom was pleased.
