How to choose effective aspirators for newborns. Electric nasal aspirators - an overview of the best models and reviews of mothers Types of nasal aspirators for children

A nasal aspirator is a medical device designed to restore the physiological functions of the nasopharynx. In another way, it is called - nozzle suction. Newborns do not know how to consciously blow their nose, so it is advisable to use assistive devices to alleviate the condition of the crumbs.

To date, manufacturers offer special devices for removing nasal secretions. They allow you to avoid stagnation of mucus in a small nose, which makes breathing easier, the child's well-being and nasal breathing is restored.

Depending on the principle of operation, nasal aspirators for newborns are divided into several types:

  • Vacuum. A device that works like a vacuum cleaner. Depending on the source of suction, there are mechanical and automatic.
  • Mechanical. It removes mucus from the child's nose through a tip and a tube, at the end of which there is a mouthpiece. Mom takes the mouthpiece in her mouth and pumps out snot with the help of breaths.
  • Auto. A device that automatically removes nasal secretions from a child's nose. Additionally, it can be equipped with an irrigation system for moisturizing and washing the nasal passages.
  • Aspirator-syringe. They are a pear with a tip. It is activated by pressing the soft part.

At the moment, there are no problems with the choice of aspirators for newborns. However, when choosing a nozzle pump, a number of important aspects must be taken into account:

  • Age parameters of the child. The younger the child, the less powerful device he needs.
  • hygienic aspect. The device must be disassembled into its component parts so that it can be processed from mucus residues and bacterial and viral pathogens.
  • Noise at work. For newborns, it is preferable to choose silent or quiet devices so as not to frighten the child.
  • Nozzle size and configuration. They should be such that penetration into the infant's nasal passage is minimal, effective and does not cause injury to the delicate mucosa.

There are contraindications, be sure to consult your doctor!

The best vacuum aspirators for newborns

The vacuum aspirator works by creating a pressure vacuum (vacuum), as a result of which, under the action of the resulting force, excess mucus is removed from the baby's nasal passages.

Such aspirators are divided into two types:

  • Mechanical - working due to the suction efforts of the mother.
  • Automatic - working on vacuum traction.

In the first case, the parent acts as a vacuum pump, and in the second, a household appliance.

Both have a number of advantages and disadvantages. Mechanical vacuum aspirators are effective for small problems. With a severe runny nose, they require repeated use, which can cause a negative reaction from the baby.

Vacuum aspirators on a vacuum cleaner pull quickly and effectively deal with nasal congestion in an infant, however, the noise of a vacuum cleaner can significantly frighten a small child.

3 Happy Baby 17003

The vacuum aspirator Happy Baby 17003 opens the top three. The device is very simple in device - a mouthpiece, a tube that attaches to the container, a mucus trap, a tip. The assembled design works from the mother's breath. The aspirator is approved for use by children from birth.

It is very easy to maintain, easily disassembled into its component parts. After use, simply wash them in warm soapy water and dry.

In second place in the ranking of the best vacuum aspirators is Pigeon with a bypass tube. The device allows you to effectively and quickly clean the baby's nose from excess mucus.

This model was developed by Japanese otolaryngologists and consists of a tube, a tip for mom, a lid, a container for collecting mucus and an anatomical tip for a baby nose.

The rounded children's tip is made in such a way that it completely eliminates injury to the baby's mucous membrane during use. It does not cause discomfort to the child, so that the mother can safely perform hygienic manipulations.

For the convenience of the parent, the main suction tube is separated from the tube of the aspirator block and the entry of mucus into the mouth is virtually eliminated completely. Baby snot accumulates in a plastic container.

The aspirator is easy to disassemble. After using the parts, it is enough to rinse with warm water and dry well. If necessary, it can be sterilized in boiling water.

1 Baby-Vac 19204

The leader of the rating is the Baby-Vac 19204 model. The device is suitable not only for children who suffer from a runny nose for a short time, but especially for babies who are faced with more serious problems of the nasopharynx.

Features of his work are the need to have a vacuum cleaner on hand. The vacuum aspirator Baby-Vac 19204 works on vacuum draft. It consists of a reusable interchangeable nozzle that is inserted directly into the child's nasal passage, a collector flask, a flexible tube and a nozzle for a vacuum cleaner.

In order to use the nozzle pump, it is enough to install the aspirator nozzle on the vacuum cleaner tube, which should be set to minimum power, bring the tip to the baby’s nose and turn on the household appliance.

The convenience of the design lies in the fact that even, sometimes, there is no need to insert the tip into the nose of the child. It is enough just to bring it to the nostril. Thanks to continuous suction, the mucus is instantly extracted and falls into a special receiver.

Unlike mechanical suctions, the Baby-Vac aspirator handles the task of cleaning the spout much faster and more efficiently. It is enough to bring the tip to the baby's nose once or twice, holding it for only 5-10 seconds, and the child will forget about the runny nose for a long time.

Pros:

  • Easy to use.
  • Sucks up mucus quickly.
  • Safe.
  • It is especially effective for severe colds.
  • Suitable for any model of vacuum cleaner.

Minuses:

  • Price.
  • Dependence on the source of absorption.

The best mechanical aspirators for newborns

Such aspirators work on the principle of mechanical suction of mucus. Through a special mouthpiece, the mother “sucks” the nasal secret of the baby with an air flow, due to which the nasal passages are freed from excess moisture. Mucus is retained in the drive by a special filter.

The mechanical aspirator does not create noise at all, however, it is less effective, not quite hygienic, requires skill and careful attitude from the parent, because if the aspirator is used incorrectly, the discharge from the baby's nose may end up in the mother's mouth.

Mechanical aspirators differ from analogues in low price and do not require special devices that would put it into action.

3 Lubby "Clean nose" 0+

The third place in the ranking belongs to the mechanical aspirator Lubby "Clean Nose" 0+. Firstly, against the background of similar devices, it has a very reasonable price. Secondly, it has simple operation.

Thoughtful design includes tip, tube and mouthpiece. The expanded base of the spout prevents deep penetration into the baby's nostril, which eliminates damage to the delicate mucosa. Thanks to the transparent case, the mother can easily control the amount of mucus entering the device. The long flexible tube makes cleaning easier.

The aspirator is easy to use. In order to free the child's nose from snot, you need to insert the tip gently into the nostril and, controlling the force of inhalation, remove excess mucus.

During use, you need to make sure that the nasal secretion does not get into the silicone tube, because the aspirator does not have a retaining filter. After using Lubby "Clean Nose" is disassembled, washed from the remnants of discharge from the nose. Since there is no need to reuse, the dried aspirator should simply be removed until the next time. Plastic parts can be sterilized in boiling water.

Pros:

  • Easy to use.
  • Transparent.
  • Collapsible.
  • Safe cone tip.
  • Cheap.

Minuses:

  • There is no dedicated storage container.

2 Aqua Maris Regular care

In second place is the mechanical aspirator Aqua Maris "Regular Care". It is intended for the hygiene of the nasal passages of the smallest children from birth and older.

The set includes an aspirator body, a flexible thin hose, a mouthpiece and four interchangeable nozzles with a foam filter. The whole set is packaged in a practical case that allows you to store the device or take it with you if necessary on the road.

The method of application is simple - you need to assemble the entire structure, put on a tip with a filter, take the mouthpiece into your mouth, and bring the nozzle to the child's nose, gently insert it into the nostril and extract the mucus from the nasal passages with controlled inhalation.

Aqua Maris "Regular care" effectively copes with snot and cleans the children's nose well. The aspirator is easy to care for - the collapsible parts must be thoroughly rinsed under warm running water and allowed to dry.

Many mothers refer to the inconvenience of disposable interchangeable nozzles, which are designed for only one hygiene procedure. The purchase of consumables significantly increases the cost of the aspirator in operation.

If the nozzle pump is used as a means of personal hygiene, then the nozzles can also be used repeatedly (due to the properties of the material from which they are made). It’s just that after each use, the tips must be carefully processed - cleaned of residual secretions, disinfected. In this case, you can save on consumables.

Pros:

  • Easy to use.
  • Effective.
  • Convenient storage system.
  • Easy to care for.
  • The quality of manufacturing materials.
  • Simplicity of design.

Minuses:

  • Replaceable tips are disposable.

1 Nosefrida in a plastic container

The leader of the rating is the Nosefrida mechanical aspirator in a plastic container. The device was designed and manufactured in Sweden. Moreover, it is recommended for use by Swedish and American pediatricians. Sold in the original plastic box, which later serves as a storage case. The device is easy to assemble, all parts are firmly fixed to each other.

At first glance, Nosefrida looks like similar aspirators - it consists of a plastic tube with a cap, a flexible silicone catheter and a silicone mouthpiece. However, its design is slightly more advanced and convenient.

A protruding tube inside the aspirator, on which a foam filter sponge is put on, protects the mother from direct contact with the mucous secretions of the child's nose.

The compartment for collecting children's snot is small, but of sufficient volume. Even with a significant accumulation of mucus in the nose, the discharge does not reach the tip on which the filter is attached. This completely eliminates the entry of nasal secretions into the mother's mouth.

The plastic mouthpiece is conveniently located in the parent's mouth, does not pop out during the hygienic procedure.

The aspirator is wide enough and serves as a kind of limiter for the tip, which is inserted into the baby's nostril, so it is simply impossible to damage the baby's delicate mucous membrane.

Nosefrida cleans the nose very well, taking out not only the "outer" snot, but also the mucus that is deep inside. Thanks to high-quality cleansing, a runny nose does not start and the child feels comfortable.

Pros:

  • Effective.
  • Hygienic.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Easy to use.
  • Convenient pencil case included.
  • The transparent aspirator allows you to control the amount of mucus.

Minuses:

  • There are few replacement filters in the set.

Which aspirator for newborns is better to choose

The nasal aspirator is used in infants not only for suctioning nasal mucus, but also for removing food debris from spitting up, which can enter the baby's nasal passages.

In addition, newborns are prone to such a condition as a physiological runny nose. It's not a disease. This is the natural state of the nasopharyngeal cavity, when the baby's nose adapts to extrauterine life conditions.

It takes time for the “maturation” of the nasal mucosa and adaptation. To provide comfortable conditions for the baby for this period, an aspirator will come in handy, because babies do not know how to blow their nose.

Babies spend most of their time sleeping. Rare hours of wakefulness the baby gives to feeding. With a stuffy nose, the baby's well-being worsens significantly. He feels discomfort, expresses excitement, refuses the breast or bottle, sleep is disturbed. Mom experiences the most negative emotions. A device for cleaning the spout comes to the rescue.

When choosing a nasal aspirator, first consult with a specialist. The doctor will not only objectively assess the need for a nozzle pump, but also give recommendations on choosing the right model.

The electric pump is easy to use. No manipulations and nozzles. It is enough just to turn on the button of the manual block. The device will do everything for you. Not in favor of the consumer here is only the price, which is an order of magnitude higher than mechanical analogues.

The most understandable are mechanical devices. Suction drive - mother's mouth. By suction, the mother not only controls the process, but also assesses the degree of congestion in her baby's nose. Thus, the parent has the ability to adjust the traction force. Such aspirators effectively cope with mucous secretions, especially in difficult cases.

Out of competition aspirators on vacuum traction. Perhaps the most effective, especially with advanced forms of the common cold, when the nose needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Quickly deals with snot, but the loud noise of a household appliance that drives the aspirator can really scare the child.

Pay attention to the age limits indicated on the package. The best aspirators are collapsible, which allow you to remove the elements, clean them and disinfect them. The presence of a collection tank in the kit is very welcome. Nozzles should be with a limiter to avoid injury to the mucosa.

Assess the child's mental state. The very process of clearing the nasal passages from mucus is a painless, but incomprehensible and rather unpleasant procedure for a baby. The aspirator should be convenient, quickly and effectively remove snot with minimal discomfort for the child.

Do not rest on only one performance characteristic of the aspirator. Approach the choice of the device comprehensively. Only in this case you will receive a useful device, and not a trinket that will take another place in a pile of unnecessary things. Happy shopping and good health to the baby!

The body of each newborn with different speed adapts to the new environment. Often, snot in a baby does not necessarily indicate an illness, the nose cannot yet fully clean itself. In order not to provoke complications and facilitate breathing in a child, you can pump out the mucus, but before the procedure, be sure to figure out how to use an aspirator for newborns.

Runny nose in newborns: causes and what to do

The nasal mucosa does not allow harmful bacteria to enter the body, so it is important to always maintain it in proper condition. In the first days, not only snot may appear in the child’s nose, but also crusts that form if the air is too dry in the room. To prevent this from happening, it is important to maintain normal climate indicators in the apartment. Temperature - + 20- + 22 ° С, humidity - 55 - 70%.

As a self-cleaning, there may be a sneeze reflex, in which crusts are also separated. Although the procedure for cleansing the mucous membrane with an aspirator can be considered safe, it is better to use it only in extreme cases.

If mucus is not eliminated in a timely manner, with a large accumulation, it enters the auditory tube and can cause otitis media or inflammatory processes.

Types of aspirators and characteristics

How to use the nasal aspirator for newborns? The principle of operation of a child aspirator is similar to a pump. During operation of the device, internal pressure is created in it, which allows you to eliminate mucus. It is possible to carry out the procedure effectively and painlessly only by observing all the conditions in the instructions.

  1. The cheapest and easiest option for a nasal aspirator is a syringe. It has a silicone tip and a pear. Although its use is considered elementary, the big drawback is the absence of a limiter on the tip, which can increase the risk of injury to the mucosa. The downside is that it is not transparent. To use it, the rubber pear is compressed, the silicone tip “by eye” is inserted into the nasal passage, after which you can slowly unclench the pear, which, together with air, will suck in snot.
  2. Mechanical aspirators consist of a reservoir and a special tube. As a tip, there is a removable filter that draws out the child's snot well and prevents them from entering the adult's mouth. Thanks to the soft, safe tips, injury to the mucosa does not occur. How to use the aspirator correctly so that everything goes well? It is enough just to insert the tip into the baby's nostril to the limiter, and start sucking air into itself with the other tube. With a properly conducted event, the mucus enters a transparent reservoir. It is forbidden to reuse a disposable aspirator; reusable ones must be sterilized after use.
  3. The most expensive, but also effective, are electronic nasal aspirators. They have a number of advantages: the tips are soft silicone, there is a limiter that will not allow you to put it in more than it should be. All parents need to do is just insert the tip into the spout and turn on the device. It sucks not only liquid snot, but also dried crusts. The aspirator's mucus collection container is transparent, which makes it possible to see if the snot has come out. Both the dimensions of the device and the power are small, which will definitely not damage the nasal mucosa. There are not many shortcomings (its performance does not last long, dear), but they sometimes scare away from the acquisition. The functions of electronic aspirators allow you to rinse the nose with boiled or purchased water with sea salt before or after the procedure. More expensive electronic options can play melodies, which simplifies the procedure a bit.
  4. The newest aspirators are vacuum. Many parents are frightened by the fact that a vacuum cleaner hose must be connected to the device for suction. But there is no need to worry, it is easy to use: thanks to a special collector, a vacuum is set - suction with such a nasal aspirator will take only a couple of seconds. Besides the fact that the procedure is fast, it is safe and effective. The only drawback may be the high cost of the device itself.

How to carry out the procedure correctly

Since the procedure is carried out with a child in the first months of life, it is imperative to study the instructions on how to use the children's aspirator. Pay attention to the peculiarities of using the type of aspirator that was purchased, its use for cleansing the nose in children of different age categories.

How to prepare?

Before the procedure, it is better to consult with a pediatrician about the advisability of suctioning nozzles and choosing an aspirator. Before using any neonatal aspirator, you must:

  • Removable parts are washed with water, disinfected and dried.
  • It is forbidden to completely wet the body of the nasal aspirator, just wipe it with a slightly damp cloth or napkin.
  • Review all the details for integrity, especially the part that is inserted into the baby's nose. Even a minimal crack can damage the baby's mucous membranes.
  • If there are protective filters, check their presence and quality.
  • Pick up the tip on a nasal aspirator that fits under the child's nostril.
  • Make sure that all the parts are assembled and well fixed, try the performance.

If the newborn forgets about the unpleasant procedure in a minute, then the elders may experience fear after it is carried out.

Before using an aspirator to clean the nose, they need to be mentally prepared for this: tell them how everything will go, so that the child will breathe easier.

The child can even test the device on a doll.

Stages of aspiration

To allay the child's fear of the procedure, it is better to pick him up. Maternal warmth will take away his worries a little.

For the correct procedure, the aspirator must:

  • It is better to soften the thick mucus that needs to be sucked out by diluting it with a special liquid that contains a solution of sea salt (it can be Aqua Maris, Humer or regular saline). Children's dose (for infants) should not exceed 2 drops in one nostril. If you use self-prepared liquids for instillation, then it is better to make small fresh portions daily, as harmful bacteria quickly start up in them. For children under 3 years old, it is allowed to irrigate the nasal cavity only with drops, at 2-3 years old - with sprays. It is also possible to prepare solutions at home, but in pharmacies the proportions of all components are exactly observed and the risk of mucosal burns after treatment of the nasal cavity is minimal.
  • If you drip into the left nasal passage, the head tilts slightly to the right and vice versa. For instillation, use a clean pipette.
  • After the introduction of some water with a runny nose, the baby should lie down for several minutes, and then provide him with a vertical position.
  • Using a nasal aspirator for parents is simple: insert the tip into the nose, pump out the mucus first from one nostril, then from the second. At the moment of pumping out the nozzles in the nostril, you need to create a vacuum. To do this, place the tip in one, and cover the other with your finger. The position of the baby during the procedure is strictly vertical. Collect mucus depending on the type of aspirator.
  • If the nozzles and filters on the aspirator were disposable, discard them, rinse and disinfect the rest of the structure.

No matter what type of aspirator is used for a runny nose, the tip is held correctly - strictly evenly, it is not allowed to touch the walls of the nose, because this is the first step to damage them and cause bleeding.

Contraindications

The procedure seems simple and harmless, harmless, because the newborn does not take any drugs. But young parents should pay attention to a number of contraindications and restrictions.

  • The child has damaged mucous passages of the nose of various etiologies.
  • Contraindications due to the peculiarities of the structure or pathologies of the nose in a child.
  • Manifestations of allergy to the material from which the handpiece of the device is made.

Frequent use of the device with a cold is not recommended, as this is fraught with a violation of the normal microflora in the newborn's nose. The cavity can quickly dry out. Resort to the procedure only in extreme cases, no more than 3 times a day, without going beyond the security measures.

When a newborn has a runny nose, do not rush to buy drops - use a nasal aspirator. Rules for using the device. Review of the best brands.

Runny nose is a common occurrence in infants. It is provoked not only by an infection, an allergy or a cold. Discharge from the nose also appears as an adaptive reaction of a small organism to new conditions of existence. And the growth of crusts can be a consequence of dry air in the room. But in any case, the baby is uncomfortable: the nose is clogged, it is impossible to eat and sleep. The baby is worried, crying and naughty.

But do not rush to run to the pharmacy for saving drops - the newborn does not need extra medicines. Use a nasal aspirator - it will be a real salvation in a difficult situation.

What it is?

Children under the age of 2 cannot blow their nose on their own. The mucous secret, accumulating in the nose, thickens and becomes a breeding ground for the development of pathogenic microorganisms and bacteria. In addition, a baby with a stuffy nose begins to breathe through the mouth, opening infections and cold air directly into the throat. There is a need to help the baby get rid of snot. How to do it?

Not so long ago, pediatricians advised young parents to clean the crusts of a newborn with a cotton turunda soaked in oil. It had to be inserted into the baby's nasal passage, scrolled and abruptly removed. The painful procedure frightened the baby, caused severe discomfort, and sometimes injured the delicate mucous membrane. Today, the need for such executions has disappeared: modern mothers use nasal aspirators - special devices that allow you to quickly, efficiently and painlessly remove accumulated mucus in a small nose. In the people, they are capaciously and accurately called nozzle pumps.

Everything ingenious is simple. The same can be said about the mechanism of action of these medical devices, which are actually pumps:

  1. A vacuum is formed in the aspirator, the tip of which is inserted into the nostril.
  2. The resulting pressure difference pushes the mucus out of the nasal cavity.
  3. As a result, the nozzles fall into a special reservoir, freeing the respiratory passages.

I must say that these devices will be useful not only for babies. They can be used by people of any age prone to otitis media. After all, blowing your nose for this category of patients is categorically contraindicated, since in this case mucus can get into the auditory tube and cause inflammation.

What to choose?

“Do you want manual or electronic?” - with such a question, a pharmacist can drive even the most experienced parents into a dead end. Indeed, the choice of nasal aspirators today is great. They differ in appearance, design complexity and price. How to choose the most suitable option for the baby? What to pay attention to? Let's figure it out.

mechanical type

It is a long, transparent, flexible tube. One of its ends is equipped with a soft rounded nozzle designed for insertion into the baby's nasal cavity. The other one ends with a mouthpiece, which the adult takes into his mouth and draws in air. The resulting pressure drop pushes the mucus into the tube, and then into a special reservoir, where it accumulates, since the replaceable protective filter does not allow the liquid secret to move further along the aspirator.

The mechanical design has many "pluses":

  • specially provided limiters control the depth of insertion of the apparatus into the baby's nose;
  • the soft material of the tips protects the mucosa from injury;
  • pumping out the secret is quick and painless;
  • an adult can adjust the strength and speed of aspiration;
  • a transparent tube makes it possible to track the quantity and quality of the pumped out mucus;
  • low, within 200 rubles, the price makes the device affordable.

But there are some "cons":

  • a thick and deep-seated secret cannot be cleaned with such an apparatus;
  • there is always a risk of adult infection, as bacteria and viruses can enter the oral cavity;
  • after each procedure, the device requires mandatory thorough washing and boiling.
  • protective filters are disposable and must be replaced before each use of the aspirator. They, and in some models also interchangeable tips, will have to be bought separately;

Electronic type

This device consists of a tip with a soft nozzle, a transparent container for the accumulation of mucus and a comfortable handle, which has a built-in miniature motor that creates a vacuum and batteries. The design is activated by a simple push of a button.

What is good about the electronic version of the aspirator:

  • effective in use, continuous exposure perfectly cleans the baby's nose;
  • a transparent container makes it possible to track how much liquid secretion comes out;
  • allows not only to treat rhinitis, but also to carry out its prevention, thanks to the additional function of washing and irrigating the mucous membranes;
  • funny melodies that sound during manipulations turn a serious procedure into a game, relaxing the child;
  • this electrical device works mainly on batteries, which allows you to take it with you even for a walk;
  • low power protects against damage to the mucous membrane and injuries of the nasal cavity.

I must say that such a mechanism is not cheap: from 1200 rubles. In addition to the high price, it makes you think about the expediency of the acquisition:

  1. The fragility of the device, especially with careless handling.
  2. The need for frequent battery replacement.
  3. The inability to adjust the power of aspiration.
  4. Absolute uselessness in case of thick discharge from the nose.
  5. Nozzles and the reservoir are easily removed, washed and disinfected. The main thing is not to forget to do it immediately after the procedure.

vacuum type

Devices of this type have recently appeared on the market. This is a silicone tube with removable tips. One of them is inserted into the baby's nose, the other is attached to a special device that creates negative pressure. As a result, in 15 seconds, the mucus from the small nose is effectively sucked out and settled in a special container.

Many parents consider such a device to be the best, as it:

  • practically does not break;
  • safe and effective;
  • allows you to adjust the suction power;
  • easy to disassemble and wash.

True, some manufacturers recommend using a conventional vacuum cleaner as an apparatus that creates a vacuum, and this is not always convenient. In addition, kids are often frightened by the loud noise of the unit and flatly refuse the frightening procedure.

The same principle of operation underlies the operation of portable medical aspirators, such as AMP - MP - 1, with the help of which fluid is removed from the upper respiratory tract of newborns and resuscitation is carried out or emergency medical care is provided.

Manual type

The aspirator in the form of a syringe has been known since the time of our great-grandmothers. This primitive device is a rubber pear and a soft tip inserted into the baby's nose. Despite its simplicity, this mechanism is very popular among modern parents, thanks to:

  • ease of use: just squeeze the rubber container and insert the tip into the baby's nose;
  • straightening, the syringe, along with air, also draws in liquid secretions;
  • practicality in care: the device is easy to clean and can withstand boiling;
  • availability: the price of such an aspirator is quite low, and you can buy it at any pharmacy;
  • economy: no additional parts required.

But with this device you need to be careful:

  1. Due to the lack of restraints, the tip can penetrate too deep into the nasal passage and cause injury to the baby.
  2. The opacity of the pear makes it impossible to control the amount, color and consistency of the pumped out contents.
  3. It is better to choose an aspirator with a wide neck or a detachable one. Such models are easier to wash and dry, and thus prevent the development of harmful microorganisms inside the pear.

famous brands

Taking into account the feedback from parents, you can make a kind of rating of the popularity and demand for children's nasal aspirators.

Mom and dad give the first place to the Otrivin baby mechanical type apparatus. Cheap and effective, it is used both for the treatment of acute conditions with excess mucus and purulent discharge, and for prevention. The model involves the withdrawal of liquid secretion along with air through the outlet tube. Additionally, you will have to buy replacement nozzles and foam filters. The attached instruction describes in detail the entire algorithm of the procedure, which must not be violated. Store the device in a sealed package, preventing it from drying out or freezing. If you want to purchase a similar model, but cheaper, opt for an aspirator "Asterisk Baby 0+".

"Pigeon" - a Japanese device developed in conjunction with the best otolaryngologists. The sucked secret accumulates in a special receiver and, thanks to a special design, does not fall back into the baby's nasal cavity. The outlet tube is so flexible that the procedure can be carried out at any angle. Additional filters are not required. The kit includes a special case for storing the device.

B.Well WC-150 ("Clean nose")- This is an automatic aspirator that runs on batteries. Many parents note the handy shape and ease of use. There are only two buttons on the panel. The upper one turns the device on and off, the lower one, with a note, starts the musical accompaniment. Nozzles of different sizes allow you to adjust the depth of penetration into the nasal cavity. The device can be easily disassembled into its component parts, cleaned and washed.

The famous Italian company "Chicco" also did not ignore nasal aspirators, creating its own version. A soft pear and an anatomically shaped nozzle - everything is simple and clear. Elastic materials do not injure the mucous membrane of a small nose, they are easily compressed. Of the noted inconveniences - the need to press down the second nostril during the procedure and low efficiency in the fight against thick snot.

A pediatrician will help you choose the right aspirator that is ideal for your child. He will also explain how to use the device correctly in order to alleviate the condition of the baby and do no harm.

How to work with an aspirator?

Carefully read the instructions that came with the device. It will vary depending on the type of construction. But the basic provisions are the same for all types.

Preparatory stage

Before use:

To overcome the fear of an unfamiliar procedure, older children need to be psychologically prepared. Explain to the baby what and why you will do. Perform aspiration on yourself. Give the child the opportunity to hold the device in his hands, examine it and “clean” the doll’s nose.

Carrying out the procedure

The quality of aspiration largely depends on the condition of the child. It is better to take a newborn in your arms: feeling the warmth of the mother's body, he will behave calmer. Now let's get down to business:

Children's doctor Komarovsky warns of extra caution when using nasal aspirators. After all, even a professional device with soft nozzles and limiters in inept hands can turn into an instrument of torture. The mucous membranes in the nasal cavity of a child are very delicate, they are easy to injure during cleaning. If such a nuisance nevertheless occurred, and bleeding began, tilt the baby's head forward, and press the affected nostril with your finger against the wing of the nose.

Indications and contraindications

You should not immediately take on the aspirator if the baby has a slightly runny nose - in this case, the body itself must cope with the problem by training immune defenses. But the absolute indication for the use of the device is an abundant liquid discharge from the nose of a viral, infectious or catarrhal etiology, in which the child:

  • difficulty breathing;
  • disturbed sleep and feeding;
  • anxiety and whims are observed.

It is worth aspiration when the nasal passage is clogged, and there is little discharge, especially if they form against the background of poor general health, high fever and weakness. But in this case, the procedure will require mandatory preliminary softening of a thick or dry secret.

It is important to know that this seemingly harmless manipulation has a number of contraindications. These include:

The procedure should not be abused. Frequent use of an aspirator can lead to a violation of the microflora of the nasal cavity, drying out and thinning of the mucous membranes. It is worth using the device only as needed, in the acute period - no more than 3 times a day, before feeding and sleeping, strictly following the instructions and precautions. Only in this case, your baby's breathing will become easy and free.

Babies still do not know how to get rid of mucous secretions from the nasal cavity on their own, so a runny nose in infants has more severe consequences than in adults. And, if for you personally a runny nose is just 2-3 days of a cold, then in a newborn, such a condition can provoke much more serious illnesses.

With a severe runny nose, the baby cannot sleep normally due to the inability to fully breathe. In addition, in the mucus that accumulates in the nasal passages of the baby, there is a huge amount of pathogens. It should also be understood that due to constant mouth breathing, the wrong bite is formed in babies. It is for these reasons that it is necessary to clean the nose of a baby using a special tool -. So, how to use the neonatal aspirator correctly and can alternative means be used?

What is a nasal aspirator?

So, what is this tool? A nasal aspirator is a small rubber balloon with a silicone tip that is soft enough to not cause discomfort to the baby. The balloon itself has enough volume to pump out the snot from the child's nose. Modern models of aspirators can be both mechanical and electrical, but the principle of their operation and purpose is the same - to quickly and easily suck out biological fluids.

Most often, aspirators are used specifically for cleaning the nasal passages in children; this device is indispensable in cases where the baby is still too small to blow his nose on his own. Children's aspirators, which help to gently and quickly clear the nose of mucus, can be purchased at any pharmacy.

An aspirator for babies is a special device for cleaning the nose of a baby (in particular, to eliminate sputum), it is popularly called "" or, literally, "snot sucker".

The device in one configuration or another is used to pull out snot, crusts and alleviate the condition of the baby with a runny nose.

The aspirator is safe for the baby's health, cleans the baby's nasal passages without damaging the nasal mucosa, which ultimately contributes to healthy and easy breathing.

A clean nose is not only a guarantee of a long and restful sleep, but also, since with a cold the baby cannot take the breast normally - he still does not know how to breathe through his mouth and therefore chokes on breast milk when feeding.

Ease of use

The aspirator is very easy to use - when the baby has a stuffy nose, the mother needs to squeeze the rubber bulb with one hand to release all the air from it, and then bring the soft silicone tip to the baby's nostril and open the balloon - under pressure, the aspirator will suck the contents of the baby's nasal passages into itself . As soon as one nostril is completely cleared, you can get the secret from the second.

The procedure itself for the baby is not very pleasant, as a result, he may show discontent - cry or scream loudly. However, in this way the child will be motivated to learn how to use a handkerchief.

After each use of the aspirator, be sure to wash it with warm water and soap. The silicone tip, if necessary, can be easily removed from the can.

How to use the aspirator?

A runny nose is a symptom that is dangerous for a baby, leading to serious complications if left untreated. A considerable number of parents ask themselves the question - how to pump out the snot from the baby with an aspirator so that it benefits the baby and does not harm him. In order for the procedure to be safe, it is important to strictly follow all the instructions that come with the aspirator.

Step 1: Soften the crusts

Particular care must be taken when pulling out the snot to babies with very narrow nasal passages - they can be easily damaged by any careless movement. Before cleaning the baby's nose with an aspirator, it must be used to soften the crusts. You can use the following drugs for this purpose:

  • Salin;
  • Marimer.

These funds are completely safe for a baby of any age, including a newborn.

For very young children, drugs can be instilled with pipettes, and for older children, you can use an ordinary syringe without a needle or small syringes for the same purpose.

The nasal passage is connected to the oral cavity, so that the softening agent for the nose does not get into the throat, you need to bury it correctly - the baby's head should be in an upright position.

If you want to clean the child's nose with herbs, it is better to use decoctions, or eucalyptus. When using herbs, consult a doctor - it is important that the baby does not have allergies.

Step 2: remove the mucous secret

The sequence of actions when using any aspirator:

  1. Be sure to read the instructions for use;
  2. Strictly observe all the rules specified in the rules for the operation of the device;
  3. Before sucking out the snot, prepare a medicinal herbal decoction or saline in advance to soften the contents of the spout;
  4. Keep your baby upright or reclining;
  5. Do everything so that the child does not spin - otherwise, you can accidentally damage the mucous membrane in the nasal passage;
  6. To administer the drops or decoction (3 to 5 drops per nostril), gently turn the child's head to one side;
  7. If the baby is less than 1 year old - you can not use sprays;
  8. Be sure to close the second nostril;
  9. As soon as the drug is instilled, gently insert the silicone tip into the nostril and remove the snot;
  10. Make sure that the baby is constantly in an upright position and does not fall on its back;
  11. Repeat the same for the second nostril;
  12. Boil the used appliance.

The frequency of the procedure depends on the degree of nasal congestion.

How many times to use the aspirator?

An equally important question is how often you can use a nasal aspirator. For the most effective treatment, you need to use this device several times a day. The best time to suck snot is in the morning and before putting your baby to bed. Cleansing the nose will contribute to a sound and restful sleep of the baby.

Important: after each use of the device, wash all parts that have come into contact with the nasal mucosa, and also boil all parts, following the instructions.

Can aspirators be dangerous?

If you do not follow the instructions that come with the aspirator, you can accidentally damage the sensitive mucous membrane. If you are careless or the baby turns his head sharply, this can lead to injury.

In some cases, if used carelessly, the tip of the aspirator may stick to the nasal mucosa, which will also result in injury. Sometimes such careless actions damage the vessels in the nose, which causes bleeding.

Alternatives

Instead of a nasal aspirator, simple plastic syringes without needles can be used to remove snot and crusts from the nose. A disposable syringe is much cheaper than a whole device and is able to clean the nose of mucus no worse than a classic aspirator.

Pulling out the snot with a syringe is easy - gently insert the tip of the syringe into the nostril of the baby and slowly pull the lever of the device. Once the inside of the syringe is filled with mucus, take it out of your nose and wash it with soapy water. Repeat the same steps for the other nostril.

If there was no syringe or other devices at hand, and you need to act quickly, you need to suck the snot out of the spout with your mouth.

Important: immediately spit out the contents after each suction.

When should you contact a pediatrician?

Always check the quality of the tips for burrs before using the aspirator or syringe. If you notice that the baby is bleeding from the nose, quickly tilt the baby's head and gently press the wing of the nose against the septum.

Carefully follow the dosage of drops or herbal infusion for washing the nasal passages to soften the crusts and remove mucus. Excess fluid will provoke a cough, and also only aggravate the disease by spreading bacteria or viruses further down the respiratory tract.

If you see that aspiration does not help and the baby's condition is getting worse, contact your doctor immediately. A runny nose can be a sign of any of the respiratory infections.

Nasal aspirators (otrivin, etc.) are quite effective in combating a runny nose in a baby. After clearing the nose of snot, you will notice how the baby’s mood will noticeably improve, he will sleep and eat better. However, in order not to accidentally harm the child, be guided by the instructions for the aspirators and strictly follow all recommendations.

The newborn aspirator helps to clear the nasal passage of mucus, snot and other excess fluid. Many babies suffer from a similar problem when milk gets into the spout when feeding from a bottle or breastfeeding. In addition, a runny nose can occur with colds and allergies, too dry air and insufficient humidity in the room.

The child himself cannot blow his nose, then aspirators or nozzle pumps come to the rescue. They cleanse and moisturize the nasal passages, facilitate breathing and the baby's condition, eliminate discomfort and speed up treatment in the presence of colds or allergic diseases. But before using this drug, be sure to consult a pediatrician. Let's find out in more detail what this device represents. And we will find out how to choose for a newborn and baby.

When You Need an Aspirator

  • Profuse mucous discharge from the nose;
  • and other viral disease;
  • allergic rhinitis;
  • Prevention of the common cold;
  • With weak immunity, a tendency to frequent colds and complications of acute respiratory viral infections or acute respiratory infections;
  • Acute and chronic rhinitis;
  • Acute and chronic sinusitis, including sinusitis;
  • Diseases of the ENT character (ears, mouth and nasal cavity).

Device and types of aspirator

The traditional aspirator is a rubber flask with a plastic or silicone tip. By the way, experts advise choosing silicone nozzles, as they are safe and do not injure the nasal mucosa. In addition, soft silicone is hypoallergenic, convenient and comfortable to use.

Modern respirators are a more advanced device that resembles a construction pistol in appearance. To operate this device, you need to press a button or a rubber part. Today, four types of aspirates are issued:

  • A syringe is a cheap, simple and effective device in the form of a rubber bulb with a soft silicone tip. However, it is produced without a limiter, which complicates the control of the operation of the device. After each use, the pear and tips must be thoroughly washed and boiled;
  • Mechanical aspirator - a tube with a reservoir for mucus, a replaceable filter and soft, replaceable tips. One end of the tube is inserted into the child's nose, and the adult must suck air from the other. A replaceable filter prevents mucus from entering the mouth of an adult, the secretions remain in the reservoir. Disposable tips prevent the spread of infection and do not require disinfection. After use, the tip is thrown away;
  • The vacuum device is a safe modern device of the latest generation. It works by attaching to a home vacuum cleaner through a special mouthpiece. The device is easy and convenient to adjust, which ensures the safety of use. The product is distinguished by high efficiency, durability and fast action. The aspirator will clean the baby's nose in a few seconds! However, the device has a high price;
  • An electronic or electric device is an easy-to-use device that is convenient for sucking snot, cleaning and moistening the baby's nasal cavity. The product has comfortable control by means of buttons, compact size, safety and high efficiency. But the device is quite expensive.

In addition, it is important for the baby to choose a reliable and safe solution that is used in front of the aspirator. It thins the mucosa and helps the aspirator to remove the liquid faster. You can use purchased drops. Aqualor Baby, Nazol Baby, Otrivin Baby, Salin and Aqua Maris are suitable for newborns. Drops "Pinosol" are allowed for children older than two years. But sprays are not recommended for use up to three years. Moreover, they can only worsen the situation. What remedy for a cold for a baby to choose, see.

Instead of a purchased product, you can use sea salt, mineral water, herbal decoctions, or a homemade solution. To prepare a saline solution, add a teaspoon of table salt to a liter of water and mix. Instead of salt, you can put soda. For decoctions, choose chamomile, eucalyptus, calendula or sage. The main thing is that the child does not have an allergic reaction to the selected component.

Is a vacuum aspirator dangerous?

Today, vacuum nasal aspirators have become very popular, despite the high cost. However, many parents are afraid that they can harm the mucous membrane due to the high power of the vacuum cleaner. But such drugs are absolutely safe due to the power of a true vacuum and the rapid suction of liquid in just 20-30 seconds.

The vacuum aspirator is equipped with a double swirl top flask, which allows you to safely connect the device to your home vacuum cleaner. This is an excellent solution for eliminating copious nasal discharge. However, the device is not recommended to be used too often, otherwise the runny nose will increase. Be sure to follow your doctor's instructions and directions.

It is not necessary to use a vacuum device, you can easily take a more traditional and cheaper preparation. Each type of aspirator has varying degrees of effectiveness and helps to get rid of accumulated mucus in the baby's nose. Let's look at which company's aspirator for newborns is better to choose.

How to use the neonatal aspirator correctly

  • Before using the device, be sure to consult a pediatrician and read the instructions;
  • Carry out the procedures carefully so as not to harm the delicate mucous membrane of the baby;
  • First, use a pipette to drop saline, drops, or another agent of your choice into your nose. To do this, tilt the baby's head back or lay the baby down with a folded sheet or towel under the head. Drip two or three drops into each nostril and leave your head in this position for 20-30 seconds;
  • Natural remedies are best prepared every day. You can not store the compositions for more than a day, since during this time harmful bacteria will appear in the solution;
  • The tip of the device is inserted into one nostril of the baby, and the second is closed with a finger to create a vacuum;
  • The child must be in an upright position;
  • Press the button or rubber surface, or press or squeeze the bulb;
  • Remove the aspirator after the procedure. If the device does not provide a special container for collecting liquid, squeeze the mucus onto a tissue. Wipe the device and repeat the procedure with the second nostril;
  • After cleaning is completed, the aspirator is thoroughly washed with water and soap, if necessary, sterilized or treated with a disinfectant. Reusable nozzles are also processed, disposable ones are thrown away;
  • Do not use disposable tips more than once! They retain bacteria and can cause infection;
  • It is recommended to clean the child's nose no more than two or three times a day, so as not to irritate the child's delicate mucous membrane;
  • Cleanse before feeding and/or before bed;
  • Salt solution should not be used for more than four days in a row, so as not to overdry the nasal mucosa.

The danger of a runny nose for infants

If you do not remove excess fluid from the nose, mucus and dust accumulate in the nasal passages of the child, and crusts form. This will cause the baby severe discomfort and discomfort. Persistent mucus and fluid in the nose that is not cleared leads to rhinitis and chronic runny nose.

During a runny nose, the baby cannot breathe and eat normally, sleep peacefully. Rhinitis in newborns leads to frustration and respiratory failure. In addition, the accumulated fluid and mucus through the internal auditory tube can enter the middle ear cavity and cause otitis media. Therefore, it is important to clean the nose of newborns and infants in a timely manner.
