Lancôme logo and brand name

Arman Ptizhan tried to choose a name for his company that is simple and easy to pronounce in any language. Inspiration came to him while visiting a friend - the owner of the castle Le Chateau De Lancosme . Despite the dilapidated state, the castle gave the impression of luxury and wealth, so the slightly modified part of its name Lancôme became the name of a cosmetic brand.

According to some assumptions, thickets of wild roses that entangled the castle became the prototype elements for the coat of arms of Lancome, eventually turning into an image of a rose on a long stem - the well-known symbol of the Lancome company. According to another version, Arman Ptizhan considered the rose to be a woman's favorite flower, a symbol of beauty and luxury, and therefore made her image a symbol of his company.

In 1940, the coat of arms of Lancome was officially approved, which included images of a lotus (personifying the development of a skin care line), a Rubens angel (a symbol of beauty achieved with decorative cosmetics) and a rose (a symbol of fragrances). However, over time, only the contours of a golden rose on a thin long stem remained as the Lancôme logo.

In the year of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Lancome brand, the president of the company said that from now on the stars advertising the brand's products will pose next to fresh roses of different colors.

Founding and triumph of Lancôme

Armand Ptijean (or Petitjean) made his first steps in the world of perfumery at the famous cosmetics company Coty, where he rose to the post of director in a few years. However, he soon left the prestigious place to found his own perfume company, and in 1935 the Lancôme brand was registered. Just a few days later, a perfume factory opened in Courbevoie, and six months later, the first Lancôme boutique appeared in Paris.

To create luxurious product packaging, the company invited the artist Georges Delhomme, who worked as the art director of Lancôme for more than 30 years, coming up with a unique bottle design. The production of bottles for the first Lancôme fragrances was carried out by the companies Lalique and Bakkara. At the World Perfumery Exhibition in Brussels in 1935, Lancome presented five magnificent, luxuriously designed fragrances that have become classics of perfumery - Tropiques, Tendres Nuits, Сypre, Conquetes, Bocages. The result of the company's six-month activity was the opening of Lancôme boutiques in 30 countries around the world.

In 1936 Nutrix Nourishing Cream enters the cosmetics market and revolutionizes the world of skin care. The cream contained natural serum, proteins and vitamins, was able to heal wounds, fight allergies and smooth wrinkles, and therefore gained incredible popularity.

Since 1942, the Ecole Lancôme educational institution began operating on the outskirts of Paris, where women were taught the technique of selling branded products and working with Lancôme brand cosmetics. Now this institution has grown into the Lancome International Training Center, which gathers cosmetologists from all over the world for seminars.

In the 1950s, new series of skin care products - for men and women, new lines of decorative cosmetics, new fragrances - 2 new items annually entered the cosmetics market. Especially popular are cosmetics for skin care based on sea water and algae, lipstick with the aroma of Bulgarian rose, powder with the scent of Conquete perfume.

By 1960, Lancôme brand products were already represented in more than 100 countries around the world.

Lancome - A new round in the development of the market of cosmetics and perfumery

Since 1961, Armand Ptizhan retired, handing over the management of the company to his son Armand-Marcel. The new head of Lancome expands the company's production capacity by opening a huge new factory for the production of perfumes, called "Perfume Versailles".

In 1964, Lancome became the property of the L "Oreal concern, opening a new page in the production of popular luxury cosmetic products.

The famous fragrances Climat and Poeme appear. Lancôme is becoming a world leader in the production of mascaras, releasing one after another new products with unique properties - healing, firming, lengthening, volumizing, etc.

In 1990, a new Lancôme plant is opened in Caudry in northern France. Lancôme collaborates with popular artists, such as Corno, who brightly and originally designed packaging for blush, powder, and shadows.

Lancome (Lancome)- luxury brand L "Oreal, created in 1935 by Armand Petitjean, an expert in decorative cosmetics. There is a story that the brand got this name in honor of the French castle "Le Cheteau de Lancosme", which inspired the creator of the huge number of wild roses growing around it. Subsequently, it was the rose that became the symbol Lancome known all over the world.

Over time, the brand began to produce skin care products and cosmetics (for example, Nutrix celebrated its seventieth anniversary in 2006), and the most popular from the day it was founded to the present day is the Oceane seaweed line. For almost 80 years, Lancome has been represented by such famous women as Nancy Daytle, Isabella Rossellini, Marie Ghilain, Inesse Sastre, Carol Alt, who have always carried a certain halo of mystery, always characteristic of Lancome. With muted, but always sparkling scales and color combinations, consisting of various shades of blue-green, lilac, pink and burgundy, the cosmetics of this brand won its admirers all over the world with its delicate structure and silkiness.

A bit of history..

Cosmetic company founder Lancome is Arman Ptizhan. Armand was born at the end of the 19th century in a small French town. From childhood he was talented, successful and always achieved his goal, it was this desire to be the first in everything that led his company cosmetics Lancome to triumph.

In his youth, Arman Ptizhan, together with his brother, was engaged in the transportation of various goods from Europe to South America. The Ptizhan brothers imported literally everything - from expensive cognacs and wines to jewelry and machine engines. And, of course, among all these products there was a place for cosmetics and perfumes, but Armand was not yet interested in these products and did not even imagine that in the future he would earn huge money with the help of his cosmetics.

In the meantime, Arman was drafted into the army, and soon the First World War began. Arman knew many foreign languages, as he always traveled, and the authorities in the army learned about his rich work experience, so he was almost immediately sent to South America to carry out the most important mission. Armand Ptizhan was ordered to convince the South American countries to become allies of France in this war, and this was not easy enough.

In 1917, soldier Armand Ptizhan accompanies the ambassadors of Brazil and Chile in France. Armand still managed to charm the ambassadors with interesting stories about France, that now the country has new powerful allies. Then the soldier Armand Ptizhan was offered two high posts as a reward - to become the French ambassador to Brazil or to become the minister of propaganda. But Arman Ptizhan realized and felt that political activity was not his vocation, and he did not want to devote his whole life to this matter.

Then Arman started working in a cosmetics company. Coty. And there the head of the company, the famous Francois Coty, became the teacher of Arman Ptizhan. Francois Coty taught him the most important and important things in the art of perfumery. The first is that if the best quality of the composition is created, combined with an elegant and attractive bottle and an affordable price, then the perfume will be a win-win option, and the second is that the created fragrance should be able to delight not only the sense of smell of a person, but also the look.

Armand continued to work for François and his perfume company Coty. He himself gained experience, and most importantly enjoyed and enjoyed everything he did. So Armand Ptizhan began to move up his career ladder and became more and more convinced that he would like to grow up in the perfume world. In a very short time on perfumery House Coty Arman became the director of the entire firm. But Armand does not stop there, he dreams of returning to French perfume the forgotten glory that they lost to the United States in the 20s and 30s.

Already own cosmetic company Ptizhan Lancome was established on February 1, 1935.

Of course, when Arman Ptizhan created his first Lancome fragrance, he remembered the advice of his mentor. François Coty. Armand remembered that not only the content is important, but also the shell, so Ptizhan invited the artist Georges Delom, who also worked for the Coty perfume house, to create the packaging of his perfume.

Soon the artist Georges Delom was appointed by Armand as art director of the cosmetics company Lancome and worked for cosmetic house Lancome for thirty years. Lancome

In 1935, the World Exhibition of Perfumes and Cosmetics of famous brands from all over the world was organized. And in this exhibition cosmetics Lancome exhibited five of her best fragrances, the bottles for which were designed by Delom.

Just six months after the founding of the company, Lancome cosmetics has already spread to thirty countries around the world. No perfume company has ever gained such momentum in such a short time.

At first, this cream from Lancome was intended for night use, but soon buyers used it as a panacea for literally all skin problems. The cream was used for sunburn, insect bites, swelling, allergic rashes, for healing cuts and frostbite on the skin of the face, and so on.

Imagine that the British Secretary of Defense in the 50s recommended this cream from Lancome cosmetics as the best remedy for radiation burns. Lancome cosmetics logo consists of three elements. Each of these elements carries a specific meaning. The lotus flower is located on the left and symbolizes the divine principle and wisdom. On the right, it looks like a small cherub is flying. And in the center of the composition is a rose, which Arman Ptizhan loved so much. He was sure that the rose is a symbol of beauty and divinity.

In 1942 cosmetics company Lancome opened her own perfumery and cosmetics school. In this Lancome cosmetics school, all interested women studied the sales techniques of Lancome cosmetics and perfumes for nine months.

Dozens of years later, this school became the Lancome International Training Center. The school is located on the outskirts of Paris and annually gathers dermatologists and cosmetologists from all over the world.

In 1946, Armand Ptizhan decided to return to almost his first fragrance - Marrakech. He decided to slightly transform the legendary perfume and entrusted the creation of a perfume bottle to the famous Rene Lalique.

In 1950, a completely new fragrance appeared called Magie from Lancome cosmetics. An unusual bottle for these perfumes from Lalique won the hearts of Lancome cosmetics customers. The shape of this bottle was similar to the exquisite figure of a Japanese woman in a kimono.

Another success of Lancome perfumery was the Tresor perfume, which was released in 1952. This fragrance was enclosed in a handmade bottle, which was made in the shape of a diamond with 75 facets. Perfume was made in the style of tart oriental fragrances.

Very soon, Lancome began to produce decorative cosmetics. Then lipsticks were created that could stay on the lips all day, but such stable lipsticks dried out the delicate skin of the lips. Then Armand Ptizhan introduced women to lipstick, which was no less stable and stayed on the lips for a long time, but it did not dry the skin, but rather moisturized it and made it soft. Also, lipsticks from Lancome cosmetics gave a sophisticated rose scent.
